Caldwell Hereford Ranch

A Brief Introduction

Caldwell Hereford Ranch was established by Samuel Caldwell in 1946. Today, it remains on the original spot and is home to a herd of approximately 50 head. A quick look over some old pedigrees will show a fairly consistent use of Evan Mischief, Mark Donald, Britisher, and Line One bloodlines, even if the animals' names wouldn't immediately suggest that.

From 1980 through the mid 1990's we used mostly bulls from Healey Brothers and Glenkirk Farms. We had great relationships with those herds and learned an awful lot from them. In 1997 we introduced the first polled Herefords from Gary Witherspoon and Frank Felton. Both of these herds ran deep in Prospector 7558. All polled cattle in the herd today are decended from these.

The herd has been relatively closed with the last female purchased in 2001 and only three outside bulls introduced since then. Today, OXH 1321 Domino 2005 is the only animal on the place not bred by us. Our CHR Optimums and CHR Mark Dominos are among the most unique pedigrees in the country.
